Entries for Eduqas GCSE Religious Studies soar

‚Äč

We are delighted to announce that our reformed GCSE qualification has been well received by centres in England. Following the introduction of our reformed specification, there has been a 60% increase in centre entries in 2018. Candidate entries have risen from 31,072 to 51,109, up 64%.

Lynda Maddock, Subject Officer for GCSE Religious Studies, "We are thrilled with the increase in entries. I attribute the popularity to the clear specification, straightforward assessment requirements, and detailed, yet accessible, textbooks and revision guides. Furthermore, we also provide engaging, free-to-access digital resources, high quality CPD training events (both face-to-face and online), and lots of personal support by our subject team. Teachers know they have direct access to myself and Chris Barfoot, the Support Officer, and are confident that we will provide quick and practical advice and guidance."

Overwhelming growth in entries for GCSE Religious Studies – Route B
Furthermore, we have seen a dramatic rise in entries for our Route B GCSE Religious Studies qualification. Over 17,000 candidates from Catholic centres across England sat these examinations in 2018 - an increase of over 1000% in entries, compared with around 600 entries in 2017. Our Route B focuses on Catholic Teaching and examines 'Foundational Catholic Theology' and 'Applied Catholic Theology'.

Lynda Maddock said, "We worked very closely with The Catholic Education Service and others within the Catholic community to ensure that our Route B specification is both engaging for learners and also remains true to Catholic Theology. With a third of Catholic Centres now delivering our specification, I believe we have achieved this vision. We are very much looking forward to continuing to work with our partners within the Catholic community in order to deliver high quality Religious Studies to our learners."
