Moving Image Awards – Special Guest Announcement

As part of our the fifth annual Moving Image Awards we are thrilled to announce that our special guest is Oscar-nominated and award-winning British writer Matt Charman.

His film, BRIDGE OF SPIES (2015), was a Cold War thriller directed by Steven Spielberg and co-written with Joel and Ethan Coen. The film starred Tom Hanks, Alan Alda and Mark Rylance and earned Charman a BAFTA, Academy Award and WGA nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Previously, he co-wrote SUITE FRANCAISE (2014) with director Saul Dibb, starring Michelle Williams, Kristin Scott Thomas and Margot Robbie.

Charman’s current film projects include his directorial debut, a sci-fi family drama entitled THE MOTHERSHIP, made for MRC with producers Fred Berger and Brian Kavanaugh Jones. He has written an adaptation of the Alan Gratz novel REFUGEE for Fox 2000 and is currently writing HONORABLE EXIT for Warner that tackles the American evacuation during the Fall of Saigon in 1975.

Commenting on our special guest, Rebecca Ellis, Film Studies Subject Officer at WJEC Eduqas:

"We are absolutely delighted to have such a critically acclaimed writer attend the Moving Image Awards. Our ceremony has attracted special guests from across the industry who have been extremely impressed by the quality of work produced by our shortlisted candidates, and I'm confident that this year will be no exception. Matt is a true talent and full of inspirational advice and encouragement, which we hope will assist our nominees in the early stages of their creative careers."

In addition to attending the ceremony and watching the work of our candidates, Matt will also be delivering a screenwriting masterclass, offering invaluable advice to future filmmakers. We are also thrilled to welcome back Anna Smith (President of the UK Critics’ Circle) and Larushka Ivan-Zadeh (Chief Film Critic at METRO) who will be presenting awards to two lucky award winners.
