Psychology Competition

Congratulations to our Psychology Research Poster Challenge winners

Nate Smulska of Bilborough College in Nottingham has been awarded first prize in the 2022/23 Eduqas AS/A Level Psychology Research Poster Challenge.

Earlier this year we invited Psychology learners across the UK to create academic posters showcasing their research ideas.

The competition was open to AS/A Level Psychology students at schools and colleges teaching with any exam board, and aimed to boost learners’ research communication skills ahead of progression to further study.

The Eduqas AS/A Level Psychology subject team selected Nate's proposal for a study into the relationship between gym culture and disordered eating as the winning poster.

Eduqas Psychology Subject Officer Rhiannon Murray commented:

“Nate's entry sets out a well-thought through methodology for an under researched area of psychology. Although much is known about some eating disorders, it seems clear that we have much more to learn about the impact of gym culture and its potential negative impact on physical and psychological wellbeing.”

Both Nate and Bilborough College received the first prize of £500 of gift vouchers. Nate plans to spend their prize vouchers on a new laptop for university.

Nate’s teacher Nicola Turnbull-Bennieston said:

“The Psychology department here at Bilborough College are so proud of Nate. They demonstrate excellent qualities of a student who is curious about psychology and inspired by their studies, and has recognised a very thought-provoking gap in psychological research.”

Two runners-up, Tia Cooper of Chichester College and Jennifer Moody of
Bede Sixth Form College, each received £50 of prize vouchers for themselves and their centres.

Rhiannon Murray commented:

“Both runners-up produced interesting and considered proposals on their research posters. It was lovely to see all the learners who entered independently applying the research methods knowledge from their A Level studies to areas of research which are important to them.  I’m sure Nate, Tia and Jennifer could all have bright futures as psychological researchers!”
