GCSE English: Supporting parents/guardians and their learners

GCSE English: Supporting parents/guardians and their learners

As part of our commitment to support parents/guardians and learners as they prepare for the Summer 2023 assessments, we have teamed together with leading online publication Parent Guide to GCSE, to deliver two live Q&As and podcasts for parents to support their learners’ revision for our GCSE English qualifications.

Commenting on this partnership is Sara Charles, our English Subject Adviser: “We understand that parents/guardians sometimes find it difficult to provide accurate and motivational support to their learners as they prepare for their examinations. By delivering these live Q&As, we hope we can answer their questions, provide reassurance and give practical advice and guidance which their learners can use.”

Live Q&As

Our subject experts will be joining a panel of former teachers to discuss what our examiners are looking for within learners’ responses for GCSE English Language and English Literature examinations. Parents/guardians will have the opportunity to ask questions to the panel and will learn helpful hints and tips that will support their learners’ examination preparation.

We are delivering two sessions:

  • Thursday 6 April – Catherine Oldham, former English teacher and a member of our Regional Support team will discuss our GCSE in English Language qualification.
  • Wednesday 26 April – Sara Charles, former English teacher and our English Subject Adviser will be discussing our GCSE in English Literature examination.

Each session will be delivered from 7pm, via Parent Guide to GCSE Facebook group, which can be accessed via the following link (please note, you will need to join the group in advance). A recording of each session will be available as a downloadable podcast via Parent Guide to GCSE website.

Comprehensive support and guidance

In addition to these resources, our teams have developed a wealth of FREE bespoke digital resources, articles, blogs and other materials to support centres as they prepare their students for the upcoming assessments. These can be accessed via our Student Support web pages.

Our teams also continue to be on-hand to provide you with support and guidance, and we look forward to supporting you as you continue to plan and prepare during the weeks and months ahead.
