Meet the Rep: Rhys Lloyd
Subject Specialisms: Mathematics (GCSE), Science
Eduqas Maths specialist Rhys discusses how he came to join our Regional Support Team and shares some of his favourite things about the role:
“Before joining the Eduqas team I’d spent 16 years at the front of the classroom teaching Maths from KS3 to KS5. In that time, I’d held various roles including 2nd in Faculty for Maths, School Numeracy Lead and Application of Number Coordinator for Essential Skills.
After so many years of teaching I was ready for a new challenge, and when the opportunity to become a Regional Rep arose, I knew instantly that it was something I could see myself doing.
Along with the rest of our team of experienced ex-teachers, my role is to support centres in teaching Eduqas qualifications. This could include anything from helping existing centres with facilitating the current specification, or meeting with new centres considering making the switch to Eduqas and presenting what we have to offer.
I’m quite new in post, so most of my days at the moment consist of reaching out to new centres and walking them through everything that Eduqas has to offer for GCSE Maths, but as my role expands, I expect to take on more of that supporting role for our existing centres.
I’m really looking forward to building positive relationships with centres and using my knowledge and skills to help them in any way that I can.
The most fulfilling part of the role for me is the positive feedback that we receive from centres. To know that you have had some effect on improving the quality of their learners’ progress, even if it’s just in the background, is very rewarding.
What I like most about working for Eduqas is that everyone clearly cares about what they do. I like seeing everyone’s commitment to maintaining high educational standards, and the collaborative working that promotes continuous improvement.”
