Supporting you: additional resources for Winsome Pinnock’s Leave Taking now available
In support of, Leave Taking, one of our new texts for GCSE English Literature, we have FREE additional resources to aid your teaching.
Written by Winsome Pinnock, Leave Taking explores the dislocated identity of black British immigrants. It has been described by The Guardian as an ‘insightful and pioneering portrayal of the lives of black Britons’. Schools and colleges can begin delivering these new texts from September 2023, with first assessment in summer 2025.
FREE digital resources to support your teaching
In addition to our Knowledge Organiser and Blended Learning resource, we are working with Pinnock’s publishers, Nick Hern Books, to provide new and engaging content to support teachers and their learners with the study of this play, which has recently been added to Component 2, Section A: Post-1914 Prose/Drama.
There are a wealth of existing resources including:
- Nick Hern Books Playgroup podcast episode, where the playwright, Pinnock, explores the play’s themes, inspiration and characters:
- Audio recording of Scene 2 of the play, which was created by the National Theatre in 2013 for their Black Plays archive:
- An interview with Pinnock about writing Leave Taking, recorded in April 2018 ahead of the play's revival at the Bush Theatre, London:
- An introduction to Leave Taking and Pinnock's legacy, featuring interviews with cast members and other creatives involved in the production at the Bush Theatre, London in April 2018. This includes performed extracts from a selection of speeches from the play:
- Nick Hern Books is also preparing a GCSE Student Guide to support the study of Leave Taking. It is now available for pre-order and is due to be published in time for the first teaching date of September 2023:
